Cambridge City Council is one of the first local authorities in the country to re-establish its own house building programme. We have a strong commitment not just to ensure that new housing is built and can be maintained to high sustainability standards, but that it has a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our residents, addressing issues such as fuel poverty. Moving forward, climate change adaptation is a key issue, dealing with issues such as overheating and water stress. And, even in an affluent area such as Cambridge, fuel poverty is a key issue for many of our residents, so building well-designed, comfortable homes that are affordable to live in is a priority
Greenoak is a small developing housing association working in Surrey and Sussex. Since 2000 we have addressed the linked themes of sustainability, design quality and construction performance through a quality-driven development process. Our central tenet is ‘liveability’: simple, passive solutions that will minimise the risk of problems for tenants and achieve good building performance. Future-proofing is achieved by allowing for renewable energy systems to be retro-fitted. The latest scheme in West Sussex is designed to CSH level 4 and is the first scheme to use renewable energy: a solar hot water system.
Hab was established by the writer, designer and broadcaster Kevin McCloud. It stands for Happiness Architecture Beauty. They build houses that make people happy; that keep people warm in winter and cool in summer and generally comfortable and cheerful all year round. They work with brilliant architects and landscape architects to make places that look great and work well, and have lots of outdoor space for people to play, chat, lie in the sun, throw a good party, grow their own food. website: www.habhousing.co.uk
With increased concern about global warming, Kingerlee Homes made the decision to build homes to much higher standards. Our first such scheme at Lincoln Grove at Bladon in Oxfordshire achieved the highest possible environment build standard, known as EcoHomes Excellent. We believe it is the first scheme of its kind in Oxfordshire. We are a founder member of the Good Homes Alliance and as such we are committed to monitor the performance of our new homes in terms of energy use and thermal performance over a two year period. We believe this approach is innovative and separates us from the rest of the industry. We hope you will come with us on this journey which we believe will improve the environment for all.
