Benson Homes is the residential trading name of Minscombe Properties Limited, a family-run business founded in the 1960s and which now is in its second generation. From the early 1960s, John Bailey built homes and refurbished older village properties in South Oxfordshire. Today this is carried forward with Frank and Nancy Bailey developing homes which have very low environmental impact. Working with Mike Zawadzki of RIBA architects MZA of Aylesbury, Natural Building Technologies and the Good Homes Alliance, we seek to build then monitor the environmental impact of our developments. We aim to ensure that our buildings have a limited negative impact on their environment, whilst also seeking to make certain that the health and well-being of their occupants is not compromised.

Greenoak is a small developing housing association working in Surrey and Sussex. Since 2000 we have addressed the linked themes of sustainability, design quality and construction performance through a quality-driven development process. Our central tenet is ‘liveability’: simple, passive solutions that will minimise the risk of problems for tenants and achieve good building performance. Future-proofing is achieved by allowing for renewable energy systems to be retro-fitted. The latest scheme in West Sussex is designed to CSH level 4 and is the first scheme to use renewable energy: a solar hot water system.

JRHT is a charity and a registered social landlord. We work with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to provide evidence, solutions and ideas that will help to overcome the causes of poverty, disadvantage and social evil. The two organisations have common Trustees and staff. JRHT owns the freehold of the vast majority of the properties in New Earswick (including homes for rent and shared ownership, the shops, the communal facilities and the schools) and this still accounts for about 50% of the Trust's stock. The Trust acts as the landlord for the rented property and supports the community and educational activities in the village. JRHT also carries out housing and care schemes in York and elsewhere in Yorkshire. These are of an innovative nature, demonstrating new forms of tenure, meeting special needs, creating strong self governing communities and exploring new features of design.
