Event: Low-carbon communities and eco-towns

SEP 02

Low-carbon communities and eco-towns
Meadows Primary School Upton Square, Upton, Northampton, NN5 4EZ

The recent government publication ‘World Class Cities’ (May 2009), cites Upton in Northampton as one of the few case studies built recently in the UK that exemplifies the principles of sustainable urban extensions. Published jointly by the departments of Communities & Local Government (DCLG) and Culture & Media (DCM), the report states that ‘the challenges of climate change demand that we fundamentally re-think the way we plan & design our built environment'. This event will give you a practical understanding of how to create a new era sustainable settlement by seeing one in construction and learning what can be improved upon. The three main areas of focus will be the overall structuring principles of a sustainable settlement, an integrated green network (including sustainable urban drainage) and how to design sustainable houses from Code levels 3 to 6. Please see the website for full details of the event.
