Project Description:

The Old Apple Store is a development of 5 new family homes, with one existing unit retained and completely refurbished. The site nestles within the site of the old apple store in the picturesque village of Stawell in Somerset. The 2 x 4 bed units are nearing completion and work will shortly start on the terrace of 3 bed units: all the new homes are designed to achieve CSH level 5. Following on from their award winning development at Great Bow Yard, Ecos Homes wanted to create a specification that achieved CSH level 5 in a robust solution that provided a thermally efficient shell, could be easily replicated, with reduced build times and with the most sustainable materials on the market.

Standard:

Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5

Sustainability Features

The timber frames are sourced from certified, sustainably managed forests

Insulation is made from recycled newspaper, British sheepswool and waste wood fibre

Heating comes from automatic wood pellet burners and solar panels.

The electricity for lighting and fans is generated from solar photovoltaic panels

The homes have the latest water saving taps, showers and baths

Filtered rainwater is harvested for washing clothes and flushing toilets

Each terraced house has a south facing garden designed to include a herb garden and raised beds

All houses have an abundance of south facing glazing and are designed to draw natural light into the heart of the home

All the windows are triple glazed and amongst the highest performance available. They are manufactured from sustainably sourced timber and are factory coated for lower maintenance
