Staff and Associates

Jon Bootland

Jon Bootland is Director of the Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF), which works to accelerate the uptake of sustainability in the built environment. The SDF particularly focuses on building clients and funders, with current programmes including SHINE - the learning network for sustainable healthcare buildings, and The Good Homes Alliance.

Jon is also an Associate Director at CIRIA (the Construction Industry Research and Information Association), where he leads on the development of their sustainable construction work, and was previously Director of Regeneration and Policy at The Prince's Foundation.

Simon Corbey
GHA Technical Manager

Simon has been active in the field of Sustainable Development in many guises. He currently works part-time for the Good Homes Alliance as the Technical Manager.

Simon originally trained as a Chartered Surveyor and has recently completed a Masters in Architecture at CAT.

Simon has previously worked at Construction Resources and BioRegional/ one Planet Products and is Currently a freelance consultant for companies such as Ecomerchant and the BioRegional Development Group.

Simon has also started a company involved in Climate Change Education in schools. (www.cutthecarbon.com).

Suzy Edwards
Associate

Suzy is an environmental consultant with particular expertise in construction materials and life cycle analysis. She headed the team at the BRE developing Environmental Profiles and the Green Guides to Specification and is now self employed. In this capacity she continues to advise construction product manufacturers and and has co-developed a seminar series on sustainable lifestyles. Suzy is a Director and Trustee of Friends of the Earth. She joined the SDF as an associate and board member in October 06 having been the the co-ordinator of the Camden Local Group, during which time she was also a founding member of the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s. She is the Chair of Camden Local Agenda 21 and she is currently setting up Camden Climate Action to bring together businesses and residents. She has a passion for ethical food and for the last two years she set up and ran the West Hampstead Local Food Festival and this year is organising an ethical eating extravaganza in Islington, North London. Outside of the environmental sphere, she is a leader and coach with Landmark Education, a global personal education organisation whose mission is ‘a world that works for everyone’

Jonathan Essex
Associate

Jonathan is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist who works for the Sustainable Development Foundation and for BioRegional in their Sustainable Communities team. He has wide experience engaged in the sustainability of developments in the UK, Bangladesh and Vietnam, following a background in power, transport and maritime infrastructure with major consultants and contractors.

Jonathan is a co-founder of the Living Well course and Sustainable Redhill, a local environmental forum. Jonathan combines his work with BioRegional with research and consultancy, focused on sustainable construction, climate change and visioning for future sustainability.

Lilja Katanka
Project Co-ordinator

Lilja works part time for the SD Foundation and the Good Homes Alliance, having studied Environmental Science with Agricultural Ecology and learned about sustainable construction through previous work for BioRegional at BedZED and Sponge. She also studies TCM Acupuncture

Gill Erskine
Project Co-ordinator

Gill has worked for the SDFoundation since November 2006, having previously worked with the Ethical Fashion Forum. In 2007 she began a masters in Environment and Politics at King's College London, whilst continuing to work with the SDFoundation on a part time basis.
